EC Psychotherapy
Emily Cardwell was just starting out as a psychotherapist (qualifying) and needed a place for new clients to learn more about her practice.
She reached out to Blockhead for help building her site, including SEO editing and defining her visual language in regards to colour and imagery.
WEB DESIGN FOR SMALL BUSINESSES
Client Wishlist
I want it to be calm and structured, with a palette that’s soft but still has colour to it. Absolutely no stock imagery of people crying or stressed in therapy sessions, I want to be welcoming.
Mood Board
EC Psychotherapy was starting out without a branding guide, but Emily had a vision for what style and energy she wanted to encompass in a palette and brand voice.
Emily had a put together a typeface logo and selected black, white and a vibrant peach tone to use for her brand. In early discussions, she outlined her vision of imagery with people interacting and using nature as a common theme.
To ensure we got off on the right foot in regards to the design, I presented her with a mood board of fonts, imagery, and a more neutral (and accessible) take on the peach colour palette she loved.

Accessible UI Colours
By providing visual examples of the accessible colour combinations in the proposed palette, Emily was able to see them in use and feel confident in the palette choices.
When presenting the original mood board to Emily, I ensured the proposed palette would have flexibility in its accessibility. I ran an accessibility check on the palette and presented the possible colour combinations so she could get a realistic feel for how the site would look with the proposed colours.

Written Content + SEO
As she was just starting out, EC Psychotherapy had no existing site content to work with.
Emily took the reins on writing as I worked on researching which keywords to prioritize. While she wrote out her content, I worked alongside to edit for SEO optimization. Inserting the relevant keywords into headers and throughout the paragraph text where appropriate in addition to alt-text, image names, etc.
I also encouraged her to prioritize writing blog posts for the website. With this additional content stream, site visitors could find her when looking for information online.
