Photography
Nicole Alex Photography (NAP) had a Wordpress site that had served her well for years. However, the theme she was using was being discontinued and her site was going to slowly start falling apart.
NAP reached out to Blockhead Design Studios for help rebuilding her website on a new theme in Wordpress. This included updating her web UI to be visually accessible, and reconfiguring her site map and editing copy to improve the site’s SEO.
WEB DESIGN FOR SMALL BUSINESSES
Client Wishlist
I need someone to take my current content and make overall improvements to the SEO and styling. It has to be easily edited by myself afterwards so I can add new photos and blogs. I ideally want something that will keep my SEO where it currently is (if not better) and make it look good for clients.
Accessible UI Colours
An accessible colour palette was created for use on the new website.
Expanding on the original palette, additional shades were added as well as two new green tones that were pulled from the NAP logo. The green tones would serve as CTA colours throughout the site.

Accessible UI Contrast and Design
The new colour palette was evaluated for contrast ratios and several colour combinations that married accessibility and design were presented.
Acceptable colour combinations were mapped out in a grid system for quick reference and colour combination examples were laid out for Nicole to review. While not every combination would be used in the new site build, it remains a handy reference guide for future projects in both print and digital settings for the client.
“[Blockhead] was absolutely fantastic in helping me fix, update and redesign my website in a really quick timespan. My web designer went out of business and everything was breaking and needed some help and Nicole stepped in and saved the day!”

Site Map Restructuring
Overall, the site map was in good shape, but there were a few areas that needed improvement.
A Travel page was nested in the About section of the site; it outlined her travels from a few years ago so clients could book her while she was in the area. This was no longer relevant as she was not doing as much travelling without it being pre-booked.
The Pricing page contained an FAQ section that would be moved to its own page under About; taking place of the former Travel page.
Finally, there was a page titled For Photographers that offered workshops for elopement and wedding photographers to attend. This was renamed Workshops and the slug was updated to include relevant keywords.
Content Editing + SEO
Nicole was receiving plenty of traffic and inquiries from her multiple blog posts, but the other pages of the site were lacking in relevant keywords.
After analyzing the current state of SEO on the website, it was decided that many of the high CTR and high Position keywords would stay as is. They applied to the blog posts and performed very well. There were other keywords that were highly relevant, but were positioned lower and had lower click through rates.
It was decided that that was where our focus would be. Improving performance for “elopement photographer” and “elopement photographer Ontario” by rewriting the copy on the non-blog pages as well as image names, alt-text, and meta descriptions.
The many images across these pages were also resized and optimized to improve the page load times on the site.
