Online Reading Tutor
Online Reading Tutor was 10 years old when they made the decision to pivot from online 1:1 tutoring sessions to app based learning for their students.
They were looking to grow the business and help more students across North America with this new model.
Blockhead led the design of the brand refresh, graphic design for social media, motion graphics promotional videos, UX UI design of the flagship eLearning app, and website redesign.

Brand Refresh
Online Reading Tutor wanted to modernize the look of the brandmark and ensure the text was accessible for readers with dyslexia. They had chosen a new dyslexic-friendly typeface and were ready to refresh the logo to match.
After some research into how colour effects test scores and focus in classrooms, green was included as the new leading colour in the brand. This was a pivotal decision for the branding as it would carry over to the UI design of the app - an eLearning environment for dyslexic children.
Graphic Design
A natural next step in the brand refresh project was to update Online Reading Tutor’s online platforms.
Social media headers and profile images were updated and a new suite of social media post templates were implemented.
Graphics would carry over into the app design - over 100 custom illustrations were made for the beta version of the app!

Motion Graphics
Motion graphics and video content were implemented into the social media posting schedule and promotional videos for their flagship eLearning app for dyslexic children were created.
Motion would also be heavily leveraged in the app design process, incorporating level introductions and instruction videos, and GIFs for points awarded, successful completion of tasks and other transitionary screens in order to keep children’s attention on the lessons.
UX UI Design
Online Reading Tutor had developed a screening app to gauge the users risk level of having dyslexia or a reading delay.
This app was free to download and was used as a marketing and lead generation tool to filter users from the screener into the online one-on-one tutoring subscriptions they offer.
Unfortunately, this model was not scalable and limited the number of learners that could be helped by Online Reading Tutor. Working with education and development teams as well as constant user research and testing over the course of 18 months, the Online Reading Tutor Dyslexia Training App was created.
Web Design
Online Reading Tutor’s original website was set up to market the hybrid model of software training and tutoring, relying heavily on testimonials and providing an online payment system for subscribers.
Moving forward, they wouldn’t require online payments via the website and would need the site to function as a marketing tool for their app as well as a source of easily digestible information for parents and guardians of dyslexic children. The original website also had several issues in regards to visual accessibility that were addressed with the new site design.
